Hong Kong Trip 2010 - Part Five - Actually In Xian now not HK!

Originally posted on  Tuesday, April 13, 2010 on News From Italy

While we were visiting our daughter in Hong Kong during our second week we flew to Xian for a few days, a present from her in fact. She knew how keen my husband in particular was to see The Terracotta Army in situ and not just a few pieces on loan to some museum so she arranged this trip for us.  We had a fabulous time there with so much of interest to us to see, it was however bitterly cold in contrast to Hong Kong.

There is no way I can possibly post all the photos I took during our stay so I am just posting very edited highlights here and once again for those of you that may be interested the full set can be found here. Xian

Xian City Wall - Spring Lantern Exhibition

Xian - Forest of Stelae Museum

Xian - The Bell Tower

Xian - The Drum Tower

Xian Volume One 149

Xian - Street Vendor

Xian - Terracotta Army

Two rather bad videos I took, but they give you the idea!

I hope you enjoyed this taster of all there is to explore in Xian, besides The Terracotta Army, which by the way was absolutely awesome!

  1. Thanks so much Linda for sharing this tour with us. I have never been to Xian and I have always wanted to see the Terracotta Army. Little chance of us going there now unless we win the lottery!!
Your photos are exceptional, sadly though of course I can not play the videos. Thanks Diane

  2. Linda... it must have been quite an experience. A world so different from ours, a mixture od old and new. I love the street vendor picture.

It's very nice, and very different from Europe, and therefore feels a bit alien. I'd like to see those places, though...

    Buona notte...

  3. Beautiful post!
I've been to Xian once, just a day stop-over before our next train to the northwest of China. It was too cold for my little ones to go out so we just stayed indoor. How I missed seeing this ancient city! Thanks for sharing your photos.

  4. I think the Terracotta Army is just a wonderful site..I remember reading about it, when they first found it..Just amazing.
What a wonderful trip..I enjoyed all the pictures and so nice that you take the time to share them with all of us..xoxoCarolyn

  5. Ooo, my dear friend!!!
The dance of watters in your videos, is fantastic!!!
Wonderful country and you photos are fantastic!!!
    Many thanks!
    Many greetings and kisses

  6. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed your posting on Xian. Hope to visit this city when time permits. :)

  7. Beautiful! How thoughtful of your daughter to send you guys there!

I've noticed that videos, even if they're not "great quality" still help give a better impression of a place than photos sometimes...

  8. For us China was one of the most amazing countries, culture wise. Love it. Good pictures.
