Faces On Friday - The Fat Policeman - Budapest - Hungary

On a recent visit to Budapest, I had ample opportunity to take lots of photos that I will be sharing on Travel Tales in the coming weeks.

As Budapest has many street sculptures I thought I would start by sharing one for Faces On Friday this week.  This bronze statue of a police officer from over a hundred years ago, stands on the corner of Zrinyi Utca and October 6th Utca, as if he was directing traffic. Superstition says that you should rub his belly for good luck and his hat for luck in love, of course I did both!

Faces On Friday - Limassol - Lemesos - Cyprus

   
Two weeks ago I was enjoying the warmth of the winter sunshine in Limassol, Cyprus. There were lots of people of all ages groups out and about along the Promenade, giving me lots of opportunity to capture some more faces for this feature.

 

 Do you have a favourite?  Mine is the gentlemen playing backgammon they were really organised having set up chairs and table in the sunshine on the promenade.

Faces On Friday - Hong Kong - Kowloon - Jade Market - Saleswoman

Jade Market - Kowloon - Hong Kong

The Jade Market in Hong Kong is always worth a visit. There are so many traders there that it can be very difficult to decide where, if you are going to purchase some jade, you should do so. My advice is avoid the pushy salespeople that do nothing except pester you and choose someone to buy from that you feel comfortable dealing with. I purchased from this lovely lady who was very friendly and helpful but not in a pushy way.

Jade has a very special meaning to the Chinese, it is considered a sacred stone that symbolizes purity and morality and stands for beauty and grace.

Faces On Friday - Hong Kong - Schoolgirls

In China again for Faces on Friday but in Hong Kong, where the children wear very formal uniforms. These young girls were very happy to model for me!

The weather was cold but sunny in Xian when I was there and there were plenty of opportunities for people watching. You will notice there is a contrast in the style of dress between the generations.

   I love this lady's choice of traditional Chinese sunshade to protect her from the intense Hong Kong sun.

On my Travels I enjoy taking photos of people, usually to share here. I captured this candid shot of locals chatting in Devon on a trip last year. What fascinates me the most is the length of the man with a beard's fingernails!

Faces on Friday - Cyclist - Caernarfon City Walls

After my recent visit to Caernarfon to see the Weeping Poppy Cascade  I spotted this young lady looking very contemplative and I wondered if she had just been to see the poppies.

I found it a very emotional exhibit and when I saw her looking so sad I felt for her. Maybe I read too much into her expression but it made a good portrait for Faces on Friday.

Faces on Friday - Music Student - Royal Academy of Music - London

Whilst exploring London recently I came across one of the buildings which is part of The University of London's Royal Academy of Music.

What an honour it must be to study here.  I was unable to ascertain if the young musician I have featured as my Face on Friday was actually a student there, he certainly looks as if he takes his studies very seriously. I think his instrument case is fabulous don't you?

Faces on Friday - Stone Face - Padstow - Cornwall - England

Those of you that have been following my blogs for some time now, may well recall that this is not the first time I have posted Stone Faces for Faces on Friday. 

There is a collection similar to the one I share here on the railings in Marta where I used to live in Italy! Faces Set In Stone - Marta I have never found out the story behind them. So when I saw this one in Padstow I was again fascinated.

Does anyone know the story behind this one?

I have already shared other photos from Padstow here on Travel Tales earlier this week, from my visit to The National Lobster Hatchery and I will be sharing more that I took whilst exploring this delightful place in a future post.

Faces On Friday - Bomarzo Monster Park - Italy

Whilst sorting through some old photos this morning I came across this one taken by my late husband ten years ago of myself and my nephew Scott at Bomarzo. A fun choice I felt for my Faces On Friday feature!

The town of Bomarzo is near Viterbo near where I used to live in Italy and its main attraction is a garden, referred to locally as the 'Bosco dei Mostri' or 'Park of Monsters'. It is named such after the larger than life sculptures dotted around the garden.

The garden was created by Pier Francesco Orsini, called Vicino (1528–1588), who was a keen patron of the arts.  After the death of his wife, Giulia Farnese, he created the gardens in her memory. The design has been attributed to Pirro Ligorio, a well known architect and antiquarian of the time.

The park of Bomarzo was intended not to please, but to astonish and that it certainly does!

Those of you that have been been following my Photography Blog for sometime may recall having seen photos of Pre Wedding Photo Sessions before. These are normal practice in Hong Kong and the photos are displayed for guests to purchase.

Faces on Friday - Children - Inle Lake - Myanmar

Once again this week I have chosen to feature another delightful child that I captured on my camera during my travels.  This child was living in a stilt house on Inle Lake in Myanmar, completely at ease with their surroundings, as you can see from this other photo.

This little girl I photographed in Hong Kong was enjoying blowing her bubbles. She obviously considered it a very serious business, as she was concentrating very hard.

Faces on Friday - Ferry Ticket Office - Myanchan Jetty - Mandalay - Myanmar

A couple of weeks ago for my World at Work feature I posted photos of the famous Star Ferry in Hong Kong. I came across this photo when I was writing the next post for Travel Tales which is about a trip to Mingun from Mandalay. It struck me just how very different the World of Work is for these young ladies in comparison to those Hong Kong Ferry Sailors.

The second photo is of my daughter and myself with the 'Tourist Police', there to make sure everything went smoothly and that we caught the right ferry! They were very keen to be photographed with us, they are so excited that more people are now visiting their beautiful country. I thought it made a good subject for 'Faces On Friday'
